Rats / Mice problems in kildare

We are getting a lot of call from home in kildare asking the following question.

Q. I hear noises in my attic/wall void. What is causing them?

A. Noises could be caused by many pests such as rats, mice, cats or insects. In houses the majority of the time it’s mice up there making all that noise, However to treat the problem we first need to positively identify the pest involved. Once we have identified the pest involved a treatment plan needs to be devised to address the particular pest problem. Once the problem has been solved any area larger than (6mm for mice and 9mm for rats) must be sealed since they can fit into very small areas.

Here comes the winter and it can bring with it a host of problems when it comes to rats. This summer (if you can call it that) we had no let up in the amount of calls for rats, this was down to the mild winter last year.

Its only September and already I have had the heating on at home as the nights are getting cold. As the temperatures gets colder rats are looking for somewhere warmth, this could mean your home.

What you can do to help reduce the risk of getting rats this winter

· Check your home, checking every nook and cranny to block their access.

· Don’t leave out pet food in the garden.

· Keep all food stuffs in containers, well sealed

Wasps & Ants in Kildare

They have started, the wasps are back and this time they are not alone. It’s that time of the year again that the wasps will be harassing us every time we try and enjoy our gardens ( in between showers ). This year we have had a huge increase in the number of calls about Ants, They are not only in people’s garden but they are also invading people houses.

Ants can cause a real problem once they a have entered your home, they will get everywhere is their pursuit to find food. Putting ant power down can help and kill a few but you really need to find the nest to solve the problem.

With regard to the wasps you should really not try and deal with the problem yourself as wasps can be very aggressive in defending their nest.

Rats and the Floods

Following last nights floods we are getting a lot of calls to the office from people who thinks they might have rats in their homes after all that rain. People are reporting hearing noises in kitchens, boiler rooms, etc. The rats will move inside to escape flood waters. We are asking people to be vigilant and check your homes for signs of rat activity. Rats can carry disease and parasites and can pose a health risk to you. If you need advice on what to do or where to check, just give the office a call.
